Located in Belle Vue, Soufrière, the Piton waterfall sits directly at the base of Petit Piton. Thermal mineral springs originating from the Soufrière volcano’s geothermal field feed the site.
Visitors access the gorge via a 5 to 10-minute descent down a path of stone and dirt steps. At the bottom, a 30-foot cascading waterfall drops into a series of three man-made concrete basins. These warm mineral pools vary in temperature, capturing the natural volcanic heat. Because the water runs clear, it lacks the heavy sulfur scent found at the nearby drive-in volcano.
Unlike other Piton waterfalls in St. Lucia, this site allows visitors to stand directly beneath the 30-foot drop for a natural hydro-massage. The surrounding air remains humid, trapped by the steep volcanic topography.

The lush canopy above Piton Falls, lined with Wild Ginger and Lobster Claw Heliconia, is a haven for tropical birdlife. While the rare St. Lucia Parrot (Amazona versicolor) is primarily found in the island’s central rainforest reserves, look out for Antillean Crested Hummingbirds and Bananaquits flitting among the blooms. For a relaxing soak before lunch, we recommend visiting between 10:00 and 11:30 AM.
After your soak, follow the local tradition: head 4 minutes up the road to Martha’s Tables (open weekdays) for an authentic plate of Green Fig and Saltfish, the national dish of Saint Lucia.
